….and some like it artificial. This is the news that a Japanese company has requested that their synthetic dihydrocapsiate be allowed to be used in food supplements.
Dihydrocapsiate is produced in small amounts in chilli peppers. Not to be confused with capsaicin (or dihyrocapsaicin) which gives chilli peppers their spiciness. The company claim it can “improve energy expenditure and fat oxidation, which can have a role in weight management”.
And if this story is sounding a bit like déjà vu (or déjà entendu), it’s because we reported on the company making the request back in May this year. Since then, an independent expert committee has prepared a draft opinion and views are now wanted on the draft opinion.
You have until the 17th Ocotber to give your opinion.
