Hung over? Should have let it go pear shaped

Students and over indulgers rejoice! Scientists from down under may have found a way to avoid that head splitting feeling the morning after the drunken night before.

Asian pears or Nashi. Yes, that’s right, that fruit that looks a bit like an apple, has the texture of a crispy pear and tastes somewhat like both could be the answer to avoid that “never again” or “why did I have that final pint?” feeling.

Published in the blog from the CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency, the yet to be published research seems to suggest that a 220ml serving of Asian/Korean pear (Pyrus pyrifolia) prior to drinking alcohol helped people feel better the day after drinking compared to those who drank a placebo.

The blog also says that Asian pear is good for lowering cholesterol, relieving constipation and having anti-inflammatory effects. I have to add, it also makes a nice alternative to your apple a day.

I guess we should also point out, as the researchers did in their interview for the blog, that the best way to avoid hangovers is not to drink too much in the first place.
