Goji (or wolf) berries are back in the news this week after a paper was published in the Journal of Nutrition that claims that Goji berries can improve immunisation to the flu.
Yep, apparently it has already been shown that a milk preparation of goji berry can increase immune response in mice to a known infection. Now some clever boffins from Boston have demonstrated that it also increases the immune response of elderly subjects to a previously unencountered flu vaccine, albeit also in mice.
The researchers suggest that this vaccine enhancing ability of Goji berries could be used to help reduce the high death rate of flu infections in the elderly.
What they didn’t mention was that goji berries are quite tasty too.
The paper was published ahead of print on the 11th December.
