Sometimes life just seems so unfair. Talking about two recently published papers, it seems that drinking chamomile tea can help women live longer, but for men exercise seems to be the way to go.
The Chamomile paper, published in the journal The Gerontologist, looked at the frequency of chamomile tea consumption of Mexican people aged 65 and over and their incidence of death over 7 years. They found that in women chamomile tea consumption was associated with a decreased risk of mortality, but not so for men. They recommend further research to confirm if these results are consistent.
In the exercise paper, published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, researchers followed the health of men from Norway starting in 1972, with a second set of data collected between 2000 and 2012. They found that those that led a more active life lived on average 5 years longer than those that led a more sedentary life style.
