EU launches consultation of risk managers for improvement of risk assessment

By 21. Dezember 2011Blog, Risk Management

Risk managers have a responsible position. To help those managers, EU plans consultation for ways to improve risk assessment in view of their needs. The consultation will run until 21 February 2012 and stakeholders are invited to provide feedback on the scientific evidence and conclusions online.

All stake holders agree that risk assessments as currently carried out do not inform the risk management process as well as they should. Improvement can be based on different approaches:
1. more dialogue between risk assessors and risk managers and the evaluation of possible risk-management options;
2. expression of risk assessments in terms of value-relevant impacts on humans and ecosystems; and
3. better communication of the risks including the evaluation of different possible scenarios, full characterization of the whole populations/ ecosystems and clear expressions of the uncertainties.
