Kids who were allowed to self serve their food gave themselves bigger portions when given an „adult plate“ compared to a „child plate“ that was 50% smaller.
That is the take home message from a paper published ahead of print on the website of the journal Pediatrics last week. But their eyes were bigger than their appetite as they only managed to consume 50% of the extra food they served themselves.
So, perhaps high fat food such as chips should be served on small plates while fruit and vegetables could be served on larger plates to promote healthier eating habits.
The paper is available from the website of the journal Pediatrics.
