Murray Biscuit Company issues allergy alert and voluntary recall of chocolate chip cookies

By 25. October 2011Blog

Murray Biscuit Company, LLC, is recalling a small quantity of 5.5-ounce packages of Murray Sugar Free® Chocolate Chip cookies shipped to retail customers in four states. This recall was initiated because the packages inadvertently contain Murray Sugar Free® Chocolate Chip Pecan cookies and the label does not list pecans as an ingredient.

The package is an overwrapped tray and is printed with a “MAY CONTAIN PEANUTS AND TREE NUTS” declaration. People who have allergies to pecans run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions and should not eat this product.

While only 12 cases of the product are incorrectly labeled, Murray is voluntarily recalling 904 cases shipped to its Alabama distribution center from one shift of production as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of consumers. The recalled product is marked with a UPC code of 82011 91335 and a best if used by date of APR1712 EA6. It was shipped to retail customers in Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee.

No illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported to date. The company was notified by a consumer who is not allergic to nuts.
