Nothing says its summer time more than strawberries, (well except for warm sunny days of course) and this year there should be a bumper of a crop.
Thanks to a combination of warm winter weather, new varieties, increased plantings and the use of LEDs, 76,000 tonnes of strawberries should be produced this season.
Reported in the English newspaper The Guardian, the article goes on to mention how the production of strawberries has increased by 36% over the last 5 years and that the season is now from March to December.
Twenty five years ago it used to be just 6 weeks long. Wow, the season in my garden lasts longer than that.
