A €2.4 million EU-funded project has begun with the aim of reducing microbes from the surface of packaged fresh food that can cause spoilage.
The “Safebag” uses non thermal plasma, which is widely used in the processing industry and recent research has indicated could be a very effective decontamination tool for fresh produce surfaces.
The project is funded for 3 years and is in response to consumers wanting a more environmentally friendly and harmful chemical free process to decontaminate fresh food.
More information on the project can seen on the Safebag website.
And the DIT website.
