Don’t panic! It was a very small operation in Vietnam (the police seized 336 bottles) and has been shut down. But the operation itself reminds us that there is an ongoing fight against food fraud.
The counterfeiters were mixing Saigon, a local cheaper beer with Heineken and Tiger beer and trying to pass the bottles off as genuine to local establishments. Apparently they had collected old bottles and bottle caps that they were using in their ruse. At least the beer was not adulterated with something dangerous, but the sanitary conditions under which their operation was taking place were surely well below that of a brewery.
