EU audit in order to control action against salmonella in poultry in Ireland

By 7. december 2011Blog

The objective of the audit was to evaluate the actions taken by the Irish competent authorities in order to control Salmonella, in particular concerning the implementation of the Salmonella National Control Programmes for various poultry populations.

This report concludes that in general the Salmonella National Control Programmes are implemented and they cover all poultry populations. Since the beginning of 2011 efforts have been made to further improve the control system in place.

However some deficiencies in the Salmonella National Control Programmes’ implementation still need to be addressed by the Irish competent authorities, in particular the inadequate evaluation of results obtained in the implementation of the Programmes and insufficient number of official
samples for broilers.
