Save the bees

The Emerging Risks Unit of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has set up a task force to collect, collate and analyse data on bees. Once the data is all in, potential gaps in knowledge can be identified.

The unit recorded 355 scientific outputs, 344 of which are already published.  The early papers, dating from 2004, dealt mostly with pesticides and the bee risk assessment was only partly covered. Most of the papers dealing directly with bee health are from 2012.

Although the research is focused on the effect of pesticides on bee health, there will be alot of cross over with other non-targeted organisms that play important roles in ecosystems.

The report can be downloaded from the EFSA website.
