GreenLight™ 960 , a test to measure bacteria contamination of raw meat developed by Luxcel Biosciences Ltd., Cork, Ireland, has recently been validated for use as an alternative to the aerobic plate count (ISO4833:2003).
The GreenLight™ 960 method is considerably faster than the aerobic plate count, taking only 1-12hrs for a result compared to 48-72hrs. The microtitre-plate based assay measures oxygen depletion in samples using the GreenLight™ oxygen-sensing probe and equates this into aerobic bacteria load.
