EU audit in order to control action against salmonella in poultry in Cypros

The objective of the audit was to evaluate the actions taken by the Cypriot competent authorities in order to control Salmonella, in particular concerning the implementation of the Salmonella National Control Programmes for various poultry populations.

The report concludes that in general the Salmonella National Control Programme is implemented in Cyprus and covers all poultry populations. Measures taken after positive results of tests on the poultry holdings are in general in line with agreed programme procedures.

However the programme’s implementation is weakened by several significant deficiencies, in particular: the lack of verification and supervision of the programme’s implementation and the lack of official controls on laboratories involved leading to deficiencies in the sampling frequency,
type and number of samples taken and the unreliability of test results.
