The company at the centre of the food fraud scandal in China back in August that saw out of date meat repackaged and sold to McDonald’s, KFC and other major restaurant chains will see 340 of it’s 500 workforce cut.
According to an article on the South China Morning Post website, Shanghai Husi Food, a subsidiary of the U.S. company OSI Group of Aurora, Illinois has been under investigation since the discovery of the fraud last month. 6 employees have been arrested for selling substandard meat. OSI has said that a small number of employees will stay on during the investigation, we assume this is the 160 people left out of the 500 stated on their website.
KFC and McDonald’s, Burger King, Starbucks, Papa John’s International and Dicos, a chain of sandwich shops, „all withdrew products with ingredients from suppliers that dealt with Husi.“
KFC has gone further and broken all ties with OSI in the U.S., Australia and China. McDonald’s have said they feel let down by the company but will stay with them. OSI has been supplying them with meat in the U.S. since the 1950’s.
