The company Kraft foods has issued a recall in the US of approx. 96,000 pounds (that’s over 43,500 kg) of wieners as they could contain undeclared milk.
Mispackaging was the cause of the problem, it is thought “Classic Cheese Dogs” were mispackaged as classic wieners. As milk is a known allergen it needs to be declared on packages.
Apparently the mix up was discovered by a consumer who contacted the company, so far, there have been no reports of adverse reactions from people allergic to milk consuming the product, but the recall has been labelled as a class I, meaning it has the potential to be a high health risk.
