Sweeteners can slim you down

With so many negative reports about low energy sweeteners (LES) out there, today we bring you one from the other side.

Published in the International Journal of Obesity, a group of researchers have performed a meta analysis of publications out there reporting on consumption of LES and the effect on body weight.

What they found was that overall, those who consumed LES tended to have lower body weight and energy intake compared to those who consumed sugar. They also found that drinking LES drinks could actually led to having a lower body weight compared to those drinking water.

In terms of conflicts of interest some of the authors have received grants from artificial sweetener manufactures and some have received grants from sugar manufactures, so looking well balanced there.
