SNAPs for cash disqualifications

The USDA have released the first quarter results of their crack down on retailers exchanging Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for cash.

More than 350 stores have been permanently excluded from the scheme and over 225 have had been fined or have been temporarily disqualified. However, the USDA state that this accounts for only 0.5% of over 230,000 retailers involved in the scheme which is “putting healthy food on the table of more than 46 million people each month”.
