We reported (as everyone did) last year on the horse meat scandal and earlier this year about the testing that is continuing into our food products in the UK.
According to an article in the magazine “The Grocer” last month, the UK will be carrying out a further round of tests requested by the European commission. The tests will make use of a new multi test that is able to simultaneously identify and quantify a range of animal species of all the usual suspects plus a few unexpected ones such as dog, cat and rat. Apparently these are only there to demonstrate the technology not because they expect to find them in our burgers.
Horse meat peddlers beware.
