With the continuing EU ban on importing mangos and other fresh fruit from India, Pakistan is trying to fill the new gap in the market.

Reported on the BBC website, Pakistan is apparently the 8th biggest exporter of mangos in the world. The main destination of their exports is Asia but in recent weeks orders are starting to come in from the EU.

The ban on Indian mangos was put in place due to an unacceptable level of insect contamination that could have posed a real threat to farming in the EU. Officials from the EU will be inspecting fruit in India later this week but the current ban is set to be in place until the end of 2015. Pakistan has also had problems with insects in the past and due to this the US and Japan have banned Pakistani imports.

Only time and inspections will tell if they have a better handle on the problem than India.
