Fit for consumption?

A dire warning from UK food inspectors that unfit meat may enter the food chain if changes to abattoir inspections proposed by Brussels go through.

Reported on the website for the English newspaper “The Guardian” the inspectors warn that millions of animals that are currently rejected could pass unheeded into the food chain.

The European Commission is modernising the legislation by “reducing 70 pieces of details regulation down to a framework of five overarching regulations.”

Another proposed change would only stop food that can cause disease from entering the food chain. There are many diseases (such as foot and mouth) that do not cause us disease but you would probably still not like to eat the meat. Let’s hope that one does not get approved…
