The objective of the audit was to assess the performance of the supervision of public health conditions concerning the production of egg products destined for export to the EU. The report concludes that the existing system of official controls is well documented and includes regular controls at establishment level including sampling. However, the effectiveness of these controls is compromised by shortcomings found.
In particular non-compliances in structure, maintenance and lay-out of establishments, insufficient knowledge of EU requirements by competent authority staff, deficiencies in implementation of HACCP programmes and sampling were criticised. In particular the lack of response to the inadequate standards detected in one case casts doubts on the efficiency of the CA in enforcing its powers.
