Chicken or fish? No other choice for Chinese athletes

Pork is off the menu for Chinese athletes. Clenbuterol, a banned performance enhancing drug, has been found in pork reared especially for the Chinese athletes. That was the message posted on the microblog of Huang Wenyi, a Chinese athlete training for the 2012 London Olympics.

Clenbuterol, or “lean meat powder” as it is known in China, can be fed to animals to increase muscle to fat ratio, thereby making meat leaner. This practice is banned in the US and the EU. There have been cases of professional athletes testing positive for the drug that has been blamed on contaminated meat.
