Allergen detection using DVD

By 13. December 2011Blog

Luis A. Tortajada-Genaro and colleagues from the Universitat Politecnica de Valencia and the Universidad Catolica San Antonio de Murcia, Spain, have developed a DNA microarray allergen detection method using DVDs. The technique immobilises probes that will detect the gene sequences of allergens on the surface of the DVDs and the results can be read using a DVD drive.

The results were comparable to those obtained using ELISA, PCR-gel agarose electrophoresis and RT-PCR and has the advantages of low cost, reproducibility, faster results and multiplexing capacity.
